The Fiat Oto Melara 6614 armored vehicle, by its versatility, speed and maneuver capacity be one of the present allies of the most modern techniques of battle, making in the last years by prestigious Italian firms. Product of a long and fertile experience collected by Fiat in the design and making of military vehicles and the Oto Melara Italian firm, specialized in armament, with great trajectory in that branch, the armored car for troop transportation has arisen called 6614. This vehicle, of high mobility and excellent characteristics in any type of terrain, powered by a four stroke diesel engine of great economy and easy maintenance, is found at present days in service in the Argentine Air Force among others armies of the world, that consider it a great value element inside the theories of the modern war. Many they are the functions that can accomply with this vehicle, since the personnel or load transport, armored ambulance, command or communications mobile position center, until armored car for exploration squadrons snipers, with capacity to lodge 11 men with complete equipment (driver, car chief, machine gunner and 5 snipers) in their interior.

Main Characteristics

The Fiat Oto Melara 6614 present a polyedric form body concocted in shielded steel of  8 mm. thickness, in a geometric design that offers an inclination in their sides that reduces notably the impact of the projectiles and the shrapnel splinters upon the vehicle. The space destined to the transportation of the personnel is equipped with 10 folding seats that itself rebaten to lodge loads or munitions.

The vehicle sides have portholes (four per side and two at rear) that permit the shot since the interior, and viewfinders provided of armoured glass for observation, so many of the viewfinders as the portholes are provided of covers for opening and quick fastener, that permit the sniper to observe and shoot without abandoning their seat. The shoot or command turret have 360° degree turn, and constitutes the standard turret of the M-113 APC type with dome shape and 5 periscopes, that lodges in its interior a .50 machine gun or similar. Some vehicles of this type replaced this turret by special turrets for weapons such double machine guns, mortar, tubes of smoke launchers and rocket launchers. A hinged rear ramp under the body and two lateral doors permit the quick access and exit of the personnel still in extreme situations, and these operations have been under the protection fire of the turret and the rear upper portholes. To this long list the large possibilities of employment in operations should add it can be anfibian and transported by helicopter or airplane. For the anfibian operations the vehicle does not require any type of conditioning, prior since the conditions of their body thus permit it.

The displacement by water and its maneuverability is given by its four wheels, that they act like reels due to the deep drawing of its tyres and the movement of the direction does that also the forward wheels serve of rudder; in these conditions achieves a speed of 4,5 kp/h. The low weight of the 6614 and their practical dimensions facilitate their transportation in helicopters or airplanes, therefore two vehicles of this type perfectly can be conditioned in the fuselage of an Hercules C-130. Complementary to all these characterists is the high speed, that reaches 100 kp/h, and the excellent  maneuverability in urban circulation to that of a common vehicle. During it goes the conductor has an optimum visibility, when the driver is sited down in straightened up position, while in situation of battle looks through windows provided of armoured glass. It counts besides in its interior with a special generator that permits the installation of any type of radio or electronic special equipment, being very large the interior of the body to lodge them.
